I’ve released my first draft of Segment #1 of the Front Range bikepacking guide to the CO 14ers:

Tour 14er Front Range Segment 1
Tour 14er Front Range Segment 1

This segment takes you from Golden, CO to the foot of Pikes Peak. From there, you can summit Pikes using a variety of routes, including simply riding up the paved “highway” to the top!

Working on the guidebook has been slow, but these first few chapters I’ve been tackling have been instrumental in figuring out just how exactly to design the guide in total.

This smaller tour of just the Front Range 14ers will have about 5 segments in total, most of which have already been mapped out, and only the narratives remain. Looks like the design of the guide will have three different sections/types:

  • Individual Route Networks for some mountains
  • Smaller tour narratives of the subranges, like the Front Range
  • The full-meal-deal tour narrative

How all these different parts fit together… I’m not quite sure: The full-meal-deal tour will be in part made up of the smaller sub range tours, which themselves will be pieced together from the mountain route networks. I’ll figure something out!
