Justin and Drew Bob embark on their ultralight backpack/fastpack of the Sawatch 14ers on the Nolan’s 14 route. Episode 1
LighterPack For your convenience, I’ve put all the gear I used in a LighterPack: Below I’ll go over in more detail on the majority of the gear I used. Anything not covered below is listed in the LighterPack, and/or described in the video above: Clothing Being September and with a cold front moving in at Continue reading…
Hannah Green’s incredible persistence of finishing the Sangre de Cristo Range Traverse can be read in her article at iRunFar, I was quite happy to see that Laura Kaplan and her partner went for Nolans 14, and stuck it out well past the 60 cutoff to complete the line in one big push – something Continue reading…
Boom! Almost done – one more section left, then we’ll make this into a nice mini-site for y’all to all use.
Getting close to finishing up the route! Only two more mountains left. The Huron to La Plata segment is one of the easier segments and the comparatively gentle terrain is on either trail or even road. Massive and Elbert are next!

Surprising myself even, I made a trip to the Sawatch to scout out a potential Nolans run. I’ll make it my own, but one of the goals is to do the line, TH to TH (Northbound) unsupported under 60 hours.
(See my original post to understand what’s going on)
Update: It’s done! Go here: https://slowlans.longmayyourange.com/ I’m creating an online backpacking guide! I’ve decided upon making one about backpacking the Sawatch 14ers, based on the Nolans 14 challenge. Can you backpack the Nolans line, aka SLOW-lans? Sure! But perhaps, with a few tweaks and knowledge on how to resupply or even skip a peak if Continue reading…
The summit of La Plata, my third fourteen thousand foot mountain for the day, still seemed impossibly far away. The storm system that had surprisingly reappeared just over my shoulder was now again not so quietly building up force. Thunder boomed. On any other day I would have called it.
