    What Comes in the Box?

The box itself is quite small for the size of the headlamp, which I appreciate, as it shows a little thought when it comes to package waste. Inside, you’ll find the headlamp itself with strap. The headlamp does feel surprisingly hefty for its size as it’s not a cheap headlamp made of plastic, but has a body made of magnesium. This ultimately leads to a very durable headlamp — the kind that survives the types of trips I take! You’ll also receive an instruction booklet, a USB to USB-C charger cable, and a rechargeable 18650 battery (Fenix’s own ARB-L18-3400U V2.0 which retails for ~$31) that contains its own charging port,

which you can use to charge the battery itself. You will have to take the battery out of the headlamp to do so.

Because the battery is hot swappable with any other 18650 battery (or with 2, CR 123A lithium, non-chargable batteries — find these at most supermarkets) there’s no real end to the runtime of this headlamp, provided you have more batteries available at the ready.

My suggestion is invest in a few of these batteries. I have a good collection I’ve compiled over the years and on trips, I take a few with me so that I always know I can power these batteries, even if I forget to recharge on of the 18650 batteries ahead of time.

Not all 18650 batteries have charging ports built in, so you may want to invest in a charging kit like the single battery charging kit Fenix offers. Since I have so many 18650 batteries, I have a charging kit that allows you to charge multiple batteries at once from NiteCore, like their UMS4.

The Fenix HM62-T Headlamp’s Killer Features

    Hot Swappable Batteries

Compared to many other headlamps that have proprietary, built-in batteries, the HM62-T Headlamp can be utilized more easily and be more dependably on very long term trips, where you may be out for more than three days and you still need a headlamp that still works before you can get to a convenient power to recharge multiple batteries. A single 18650 battery usually also has far more capacity than proprietary, built-in batteries, so run time is generally going to be longer per single battery as well.

    Very Easy to Use

The HM62-T Headlamp is very simple to use, which is one of its other big advantages:

    Basic Headlamp Functions

    Turning on the Headlamp

Simply click and momentarily holld the side button of the HM62-T until it turns on.

    Battery Indicator

The battery charge indicator embedded on this button will also light up.

    Changing Lighting Intensities

Once on, click on the power button again to change light intensities to a higher level. Once the light has reached its highest intensity, it will cycle down to its lower intensity.

    Changing to a Red Light

When the headlamp is off again, double-click the power button to enable the red light mode. Click the power button again to enable the flashing red light mode.

    Turning off the Headlamp

When on any lighting mode, press and hold the power button to turn off.

    Digital Locking

While off, press and hold the power button for a few seconds. The light will come on intially — keep pressing. When the light starts to flash, the headlamp is now locked from being inadvetantly turned off.

To unlock, press and hold the power button again until it flashes, then shows a solid beam.

    Strap

The strap has a rotary dial that can be used to tighten and loosen the strap, which is a massive improvement to previous designs in my opinion.

And that’s really all there is to the HM62-T Headlamp’s run times! If you like simple, easy-to-use headlamps, the HM62-T Headlamp delivers just that.
