NOTHATYPE

I have a solo show right at a place called Pirate. The show is titled, NOTHATYPE: Minimalist Type. Maximum Horror Vacui. The show is a collection of my work that deals with experimental typography and filling the entire canvas - in my admittedly nervous and anxious sort of way. All my newest work is up and a few other pieces that I think complement my newer work and give you some perspective on how I got to where I am. The show looks great and I want to thank Pirate for inviting me to show at their amazing space. Here's the important details:

June 6th is First Friday and is actually the last Friday the show will be up, so I'm having an opening for the closing. Yes. Please come! on June 6th, 2008 between 6:00pm and 10:00pm, check out the work and say hello. My long-time friend, Terry Campbell is showing at Pirate as well in a show entitled, Going Through the Motions, which I hope you can check out as well. Terry is known for making extremely large format figurative oil paintings, and this show is no exception. His largest painting in the show is something like twenty-one feet long by seven feet high. Big stuff.

Also on Friday is the opening of my very very very good friend and studio mate Lauri Lynnxe Murphy over at + Gallery. Her show is titled, Unnatural and I've been watching Lauri create and experiment with a crazy type of sculpture work, making sensational and otherworldly animals. Covered in hot rod car paint. Oh yes. So, please make it one of your stops on First Friday, June 6th.

The Third Annual Denver Zine Fest

It's zine fest time! The first year, I was just a visitor. The second year I had a table and helped manage the venue. This year, I'll have a table again and will also be putting on a Screen Print Workshop! So, if you've ever been curious about screen printing and want to know how to do it - well, in 20 minutes, I'm going to do my best to try to get you on the right foot. Put The Fun Shirts are Back!

It's that time again - I'm getting ready for a some insane Dharma-Bum adventure and this time I'm going to Europe, for two months. Traveling can get expensive, even though I'm mostly bushwhacking it. Food starts getting really expensive, as I ride between 60 and a 100 miles a day. Last year's adventure saw me go from LA to San Diego in one day and from Canada to Mexico in a month.

This show, Alex tells me, explores the innocence of childhood in a playful way, negating, perhaps the loss of innocence we experience as we grow older. It will, in fact, be drawings of childing and flowers and, people he loves. They look great. The largest drawing will be a 12 foot by 14 foot mural, made of paper. Yes.

Also, The Andenken Gallery will have an opening about a block away on 29th and Larimer, so if you come, go to that and if you go to that, come to this.

Draw Rings 2 this Friday at Rhinoceropolis - Bicycle Advocacy shirts soon?

Hello Everyone,

Draw Rings 2

This Friday, April 4th, 2008 I'll be in the, Draw Rings 2 (The Return) art opening at Rhinoceropolis - all my work there will be brand new, mostly comprised of full colored screen printings of my latest drawings. They look fantastic.

I'll have copies for sale that you can buy from me right there and take home. The prices will be democratic. The rest I'll be putting on the site soon.

The screenprints are graphically dense and deliciously colorful. The process from turning the drawings into screenprints is long and time consuming - much like a lot of my work, but the final result is some of the most unique work I've done. Each screen print is a compilation of at least five separate drawings. Many of the pieces deal with realities we attempt to deny, by either covering them up with half truths or spinning the situations to suite our tastes. We all do it, and perhaps we shouldn't. Maybe the first step to understanding why we do it is to admit that we are flawed individuals.

I've continued to work with my experimental typography of deeply stroked text and word games and have coupled this with my very much historically routed cross hatching style.

Here's a little bit about the show:

A group show of 22 of denver's most talented young artists showing in one space, on one night? Are we crazy? Why, yes, we are!
This is the second installment of the Draw Rings group exhibition, after the unprecedented success of last year's Draw Rings, there was no other option but for, "the return." At the core of Draw Ring's aesthetic and conceptual goal, is the idea to allow an avenue for experimental talent and pure creative expression to have complete freedom, without concern for commercial viability. Draw rings is a social event and situational performance that attempts to operate completely outside of the established, more conservative Denver art market.

These are youthful artists, being themselves. Denver, simply put, this is your future.

I'm once again planning to take a crazy Dharma Bum adventure on my bicycle, riding thousands of miles and sleeping in a tent for months at a time - this time across Europe. West Memphis Three Benefit

I'm helping out with a local West Memphis Three benefit show, making some posters and postcards. The screen printed posters look like this:

Pirate's Outsiders Show this Friday as well
